Stallone commissioned Gil to make several knives to use in THE EXPENDABLES and THE EXPENDABLES 2. One of those was a custom-designed Bowie, the Legionnaire. The Legionnaire offers a 9 1/2" 7CR17 stainless steel blade with a mirror polished finish. The handle is constructed of black micarta and is accented with a mirror finished guard and pommel. This knife is an actual copy of a typical Bowie knife of the 1830s. The story of the Bowie began on a sandbar of the Mississippi River above Natchez, Mississippi on September 19, 1827. A brawl that eventually involved Col. James “Jim” Bowie, who, having been shot and stabbed, successfully defended himself killing Major Norris Wright and wounding Alfred Blanchard with what onlookers described as a “large butcher knife.” This and other tales of Bowie’s abilities with a knife led to the widespread popularity of what became known as the “Bowie” knife.
